in Ethiopia to rise out of poverty through the love of Jesus Christ.

Development Programs

FAMILY EMPOWERMENT

Our signature three-year program equips women and families with the skills, knowledge, and resources to permanently break the cycle of poverty.

  • Literacy training
  • Medical insurance, annual visits, and sick care
  • Identity-in-Christ curriculum
  • Weekly savings — BoK matches savings for business startup
  • Business plan (Year 1) and business launch (Year 2)
  • Counseling and ongoing support
  • Encouraging husbands to live out their calling through workshops



Development Programs

CHILD DEVELOPMENT

Supporting the full flourishing of children so that when they grow, they lead.

  • School fees, uniforms, shoes, and educational materials
  • Supplemental tutoring
  • Medical care and annual physicals
  • Summer camp and social activities
  • Counseling
  • Bible study

Development Programs

FEEDING PROGRAM

No child should go to school hungry. Our feeding program meets immediate nutritional needs and tapers as families grow stronger.

  • Warm, nutritious lunch and snack at school each day
  • Snack at the program once per week
  • Social activities and Bible study
  • Meals decrease from 5 to 4 to 3 days per week across the 3-year journey as families build independence

This intentional taper reflects the heart of our model — decreasing dependency as capacity grows, celebrating every step toward self-sufficiency.



DISCIPLESHIP Programs

LOCAL CHURCH PARTNERSHIPS

Because of Kennedy partners with Ethiopian and U.S. churches to ensure every family encounters the Gospel. Our curriculum weaves identity and faith throughout the development journey.

  • Sunday School lessons throughout the year — reaching 700+ families in a predominantly non-Christian community
  • Bible study woven into child and family programming
  • Church partnership coordination with U.S. sending churches

RESEARCH & DISCOVERY

Because of Kennedy invests in research to develop new solutions to poverty and disparities in Ethiopia. Our discovery work produces publishable insights and keeps us on the leading edge of what transforms lives.

Discovery is the third pillar of our model, alongside Discipleship and Development, because lasting change requires understanding. We study what works, share what we learn, and continuously refine our approach so that every dollar invested goes further.
